UNI receives national awards

Monday, October 3rd, 2016

Dear Students, Faculty and Staff,

I am incredibly proud to announce that the University of Northern Iowa has recently received two prestigious, national awards.

UNI has been named to the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll every year since its inception. This year, UNI was named winner of the Economic Opportunity category for the Honor Roll. This is the highest federal recognition for college contributions to local communities. This honor serves as validation of our ongoing mission to strengthen the community through high impact projects, and I commend the continuous efforts of UNI's Business and Community Services to further that mission.

UNI also received the Excellence and Innovation Award from the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU). The award honors member institutions for excellence and innovation in several major areas of campus life and leadership. UNI won the award in the area of Student Success and College Completion for our peer mentoring program which was developed through a strong partnership between Academic Affairs and Student Affairs. This award is a direct reflection of our continued efforts to make first-year students feel at home at UNI and lead them down a path to success.

Awe & Wonder,

Jim Wohlpart, PhD
