Vigil for Nepal
Dear UNI Family,
On the morning of April 25, there was a catastrophic earthquake in Nepal. More than 3,500 people have died and more than 6,515 people have been injured. Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal, was badly hit, affecting more than 1 million people.
As you can imagine, our Nepalese students have been extremely impacted by this tragic incident, especially because of limited communication with their families back home. Fortunately, all of our studentsÂ’ families have been contacted and are in good health.
In response to the earthquake, our Nepali students are holding a candlelight vigil at the Campanile on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at 5 p.m. The purpose of the event is to share prayers for the safety of the people affected by the earthquake and to raise funds for disaster relief. The vigil is open to all.
With regard to disaster relief, the people of Nepal are in need of medical help, food, water and shelter; food and bottled water are already running short. People are afraid to go back inside of their homes and are sleeping outside despite the cold and rains.
