Great Things Happening at UNI

Dear UNI Family,

As students, faculty and staff at the University of Northern Iowa, we have so much to be proud of. I would like to share with you some positive news and accomplishments we have received so far this spring semester.

  • Over the past couple of months, UNI has hosted several philanthropic events, including Dance Marathon (March 5) and Relay for Life (April 9). Dance Marathon, in particular, exceeded their fundraising goal of $305,000 by raising $370,284.05.

  • UNI hosted the FIRSTĀ® Robotics Competition Iowa Regional in the UNI-Dome and McLeod Center (March 24-26), the first ever to be held at UNI or even in the state of Iowa.

  • Shelby Yates, a sophomore majoring in leisure, youth and human services, is one of 218 students nationwide who received the 2016 Newman Civic Fellows Award from Campus Compact, a Boston-based nonprofit organization working to advance the public purposes of higher education.

  • In January we received the No. 1 Best College Food in Iowa distinction from Niche.com.

  • A record number of 2,500 admitted and transfer students and their families attended UNI Up Close in February. This year's two days combined is the largest annual attendance for Up Close in UNI's history.

  • Sean Botkin, School of Music faculty artist and associate professor of piano, made his solo debut at Carnegie Hall in New York City in February.

  • UNI hosted more than 1,500 high school students, coaches and family members for the Iowa High School Speech Association All-State Individual Speech Festival on April 4. This is the 38th year UNI has hosted the festival.

All of these successes are because of you. Your contributions continue to make this a great institution filled with opportunities and experiences. Thank you again for making UNI an outstanding place to teach, work and learn!

Purple for Life!
