Dear UNI Family,

  • Outstanding student leaders were recognized at the Student Leadership Awards ceremony on April 12 for making an impact on this campus community.

  • The university hosted the second annual Out of the Darkness Suicide Prevention Walk on April 16 to raise awareness and funds for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention to invest in new research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy and support survivors of suicide loss.

  • Derek Bradley, a biology pre-med student, was selected by the Council of Undergraduate Research to present his work, "Development of Ultralight Magnets," to Congress in Washington, D.C. during the 20th Annual Posters on the Hill event.

  • Caitlin Brainard, a junior majoring in art, presented her expository essay, "Between the World and Me: Disembodiment and Empathy for Cultural and Personal Loss of Self," at the Iowa State Women's and Gender Studies Conference on April 9.

  • UNI men's basketball, men's golf, women's golf, women's cross country and women's volleyball teams were recognized by the NCAA for their latest multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores. The teams posted multi-year APR scores in the top 10 percent of all squads in their respective sports.

Please continue to share your positive news throughout the end of the semester and summer. We want to know all of the great things happening on campus!

To our students -- I wouldn't be able to share all of these accomplishments without all of the hard work and dedication you put into your education. Good luck studying for finals, and remember to take a much-needed break.

Purple for Life!
