Additional funding for UNI approved

Dear UNI Family,

Yesterday, the Iowa House and Senate approved a 4 percent funding increase for each of Iowa's public universities along with an additional $2.6 million in special funding to UNI's base in recognition of our reliance on state funding. This coupled with the $4 million previously appropriated in 2013, will allow UNI to freeze tuition for the 2014-15 academic year.

The university is grateful to the Iowa Legislature for recognizing the unique funding challenges at UNI resulting from our historic focus on educating Iowa residents. With this additional funding, UNI will continue to be an affordable and accessible option for students.

We now turn our attention to the work of the Board of Regents' Performance-Based Revenue Model Task Force and are optimistic at least a portion of Iowa appropriations will follow in-state students in order to provide the long-term financial structure needed to maintain and strengthen the University of Northern Iowa.

Purple for life!
