$2M reduction to UNI’s current year budget
Dear Colleagues,
Over the last two years, we have worked collectively--Vice Presidents, Deans, Directors, Department Heads, Faculty and Staff--to build resiliency into our budget. In the past, we did not consistently or sufficiently allocate funding directly for strategic initiatives or goals of the strategic plan, nor did we allocate sufficient funds for necessary building renovations. In challenging economic times such as these, we have the opportunity to redirect these funds towards budget reductions.
Today, the Iowa Senate passed de-appropriations for the current fiscal year. The de-appropriation includes a $2M reduction to UNI’s current year budget. The bill is expected to pass the House Monday and be signed by the Governor next week.
With our careful budget management, we will manage this budget reduction. We await the legislature's FY 2018 budget in order to determine the impact of the current economic challenges in the state on our budget going forward. We greatly appreciate your patience and support as we work through the budget process.
If you have thoughts, ideas, or suggestions, please let me know. When we have further news, we will communicate this information to the campus as quickly as possible.
Sincerely,
Jim Wohlpart
Interim President
