Welcome back for the spring semester
Dear UNI Family,
Welcome back and Happy New Year! I hope you had a relaxing break and that youre refreshed, rejuvenated and ready for an outstanding spring semester. There is much to look forward to during the coming months:
Sharing the Good News About UNI
UNIs positive impact on the state and its people will be shared during UNI Day at the Capitol on Monday, Feb. 16. While in Des Moines, students, faculty and staff will talk about our outstanding programs, departments and organizations and share with legislators why UNI continues to be the right fit for so many students.
Regents Return to Campus
The university will host the years first Board of Regents meeting on Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 4 and 5. The nine-member board includes three UNI alumni: Larry McKibben, Katie Mulholland and Subhash Sahai. Public hearings at each of the Board's five institutions will continue throughout 2015. These hearings give people a chance to discuss agenda items prior to a Board meeting. The first public hearing at UNI is scheduled for Jan. 29 or 30. An exact date, time and location will be announced shortly on the UNI home page.
Seeking the Best and Brightest
We are in the midst of conducting candidate searches for two administrative positions: vice president for university advancement, and provost and executive vice president for academic affairs. Our goal is to have these positions filled by the end of the spring semester.
The Honors Keep Coming
In the past couple months, UNI has received some significant honors. For the third consecutive year, UNI was ranked in the top 100 "Best Values in Public Colleges" by Kiplinger's Personal Finance. We were also named to the 2014 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for the sixth year, and UNI is now one of 361 institutions nationwide that hold the Community Engagement Classification from The Carnegie Foundation.
I look forward to seeing you on campus. Heres to a great 2015!
