Recently, the Governor announced that the state of Iowa is facing a shortfall in the current year budget which runs July 1, 2016 through June 30, 2017. Today, the Governor recommended reductions to various state agencies, including a cut of $25.5 million to the Board of Regents.
As you may know, the decision for actual appropriation reductions is made by the legislature, and we are working with the Board of Regents so that we can anticipate what this means for UNI. Fortunately, the Board of Regents and the Iowa Legislature understand our unique position as a result of the fact that our student body is largely comprised of Iowans.
As we get more information, we will keep you posted. We will be meeting with faculty and staff leadership to provide them with the most up-to-date information that we have.
